who: congratulations on the album. you wrote it in about 2 weeks, didnt you?
av: not the whole record. i wrote about 12 songs in 2 weeks with my girlfriend chantel. we wrote a song every night and about half those songs went on the album, so thats about half the record.
w: thats still pretty amazing because you had just been on tour...
a: i was so inspired because i hadnt been writing and i'd been dying to write and, i dont know, we go together and we became friends and like, i dont know, i was just like so totally motivated. i was like "oh my god, lets keep going-every night, lets write a song."
w: i saw some pictures of you playing ice hockey. you looked quite formidable
a: im a good little skater. i played hockey growing up in canada, and i've always known how to play. i played with the boys on the guys team, and my brother played
w: they've cancelled the north american ice-hockey season this year. as a canadian that would be fairly upsetting
a: yeah it is upsetting for everyone
maybe you could write a song about it. you could call it "that pucks" or "ice skater boi" or.... maybe not
a: no
w: i understand your a bit of a prankster
a: not really. i like to have fun and stuff like that. why do you think that?
w: because i heard about some interesting pranks you play on april fools day
a: right. yeah thats fun. and every once in a while i do something funny to the band or something
w: such as?
a: one time i got the hotel room key to my drummers room and i filled up the ice bucket with ice and water and he was sleepin. and we went in and it on him. my band was with me. we were going to everyones room and pulling pranks on them.
w: what sort of reaction did you get?
a: he was totally.... he didnt know what was going on. he just said "im going to get you back"
w: and did he?
a: not yet
w: you have a reputation for carrying a lot of angst. what would you have done with that if you hadnt channelled it into music?
a: thats a weird question because im not really sure what you mean. i dont think i would have been any different if i wasnt writing songs, i wrote them, so i cant really tell you what i would have been like. im sure i would have been the same person
w: i was surprised to see your number was in paris hiltons phone. did you get a lot of calls? (when hiltons phone was hacked and posted on the net)
a: no, that was my old phone number
w: are you and paris friends?
a: umm, you know, we've hung out before. whatever
w: the other surprise i got is that the outgoing voicemail message of your boyfriend (sum 41's deryk whibley) is a belch
a: you know what? yeah, i dont really know
